We have given the tried and tested classic a contemporary interpretation and reissued it in new colours. Inspired by the traditional shape that originated in the 20th century, we have adapted the leather school bag to the demands of today's everyday school life. Our iSi satchel impresses with its simple design language, a sensibly sized capacity and the high quality of the leather. The iconic shape of the school bag is preserved.
Our aim is to produce proven products in a timeless design using the best materials. Functional and shapely elements such as the organic round base of the school bag are based on the traditional design. The compact dimensions of the school bag are in perfect proportion to the height of a primary school child. Our iSi school bag offers storage space for the basic equipment of exercise books, books and writing materials that a primary school child needs both at school and at home. With a capacity of just under 15 litres, the iSi school bag is never overloaded. This makes it comfortable to carry and ensures a carefree journey to school.
Our leather: purely vegetable-tanned, 100% chrome-free
For the production of our satchels, we only use high-quality, purely vegetable-tanned leather, so-called bio-leather. Vegetable tanning with renewable raw materials has many advantages over the more common chrome tanning, including clear health benefits. Vegetable-tanned leather is free of chrome VI and other toxic chemicals. Our leather is produced exclusively in Germany. This ensures that the strict legal regulations for the protection of the environment that apply in this country are observed. The leather we use is full-grain leather. The grain, the most valuable and stable part of the hide, is completely preserved. The properties of full-grain leather are ideal for school satchels. As a stable and robust natural material, full-grain leather offers high durability. It is breathable and also feels warm and supple.
Our Patina Edition is made from natural leather that has only been lightly waxed. Nature and patina offer a first-class feel and look that will delight true aficionados. Because of its open, non-chemically sealed surface, natural leather is sensitive to moisture, grease and dirt. Because it is purely vegetable tanned, natural leather darkens through exposure to light and develops an unmistakable patina. This impressively reflects the uniqueness of the material and enhances the individuality of the bag made from it.
The leather of the Classic and Neon editions is only pigmented on the grain side. This creates a beautiful two-tone effect. The coloured grain side of the leather stands against the natural reverse side and cut edge. To emphasise the interplay of colour and nature, our satchels are sewn with open edges. We deliberately avoid concealing inner linings. The natural material leather is visible and tangible on the outside and inside.
Every leather school satchel is a piece of craftsmanship
More than a hundred steps are necessary before the school bag is finished and can be carefully packed and put into the parcel. First, the leather is checked. Small, damaged spots are marked to avoid them during the punching process. Each leather hide has its own shape and size, which must be taken into account when punching. The punching of the leather is done by hand. The punched parts are checked and prepared for laminating. On the inside, so-called collars made of leather are attached to the main compartment of the school bag. These increase the dimensional stability of the satchel, so that it will give pleasure for a long time.
Our iSi school bag is made entirely of leather. The sewing in of the round side bottom is demanding in terms of craftsmanship. Qualified saddlers and bag makers produce first-class seams. Lovingly crafted details complement the purist design. The exquisite workmanship shows off the natural material leather to its best advantage. 4 cm wide shoulder pads made of 100% wool felt ensure pleasant wearing comfort. The combination of leather and felt gives the satchel warmth and underlines the timeless style of the classic.
Tips for caring for the leather so that you can enjoy your school satchel for a long time
Our iSi school bag is easy to care for and weatherproof. No additional protection is needed when it rains. The school utensils inside stay dry. If the school bag ever gets wet, you should let it dry slowly to avoid changes in shape.
To clean the bio-leather, simply use a cloth slightly dampened with water. Heavy rubbing should be avoided. Dirt can be removed with a dry cloth after drying. Avoid strong rubbing here as well. Please do not use commercially available leather care products (leather care creams, leather oils, waxes or similar) without first carefully testing them on a small, inconspicuous area. This could permanently damage the feel, lightness and beauty of your organic leather.

Basics in leather for primary school: satchels and pencil cases
Due to its light weight and proven fit, our school bag iSi is ideally suited for first graders and primary school children. From grade 1 onwards, it can be worn throughout the entire period of attendance at primary school. Regardless of whether it is a public school, a state regular school or free alternative school, Waldorf/Steiner school- Montessori school, Pestalozzi school or international school. As an environmentally friendly school bag, it fits particularly well into the holistic learning worlds of modern, value-oriented schools. Together with the matching leather pencil case, the iSi school bag is the perfect basic equipment for the start of school.
Whether a school starter needs a single pencil case or a double pencil case in addition to the school bag depends on the type of school and the teacher's preference. Therefore, we recommend waiting for the first parents' evening. There you will usually receive detailed information about the writing utensils to be provided. You will find out whether felt-tip pens or fineliners are needed in addition to coloured pencils. If only coloured pencils are used, a simple pencil case offers sufficient storage space. A double pencil case is ideal for additional fibre-tip pens. With a separate compartment for a set square, the double pencil case can be used beyond the primary school years. At Waldorf schools, first graders usually use a roll-up pencil case for wax blocks. A pencil case with pencils is only used from grade 2 onwards.
