Leather Pencil Cases

Pupils in all grades need a pencil case. The requirements for the pencil case change over the course of the school years. When entering the first grade, pens and drawing utensils are needed above all, which are particularly suitable for learning to write. Since school beginners often still press down a little too hard during their first writing exercises, these are, for example, coloured pencils with break-proof leads, or also pencils in a thicker format that fit six- and seven-year-old children perfectly in the hand. In any case, the equipment for primary school includes a pencil with sharpener, eraser and ruler. In the course of the first grade, a fountain pen is usually needed. Then there are coloured pencils. This equipment of about 20 pieces fits into a simple pencil case with a zip all around (without additional flaps).

If you want to store fibre-tip pens as well as crayons in your pencil case, you will need a double pencil case with two compartments. This offers storage space for a total of 36 items. In addition to the coloured pencils, there is also room for felt-tip pens, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, rulers and fountain pens, and a geo-triangle can be stored in a separate compartment to protect it from breakage. Which pencil case is needed in primary school therefore depends largely on whether the school visited only wants to use coloured pencils in lessons or whether the use of coloured and felt-tip pencils is planned. Since the teachers' wishes for the children's working materials vary greatly in the different schools, it is advisable for parents of children starting school not to purchase a pencil case until after the first parents' evening. At the first parents' evening, they will learn in detail what is needed in the first class.

Pencil cases with 3 compartments are generally useless. They are neither needed in primary school nor in the following grades. Especially first graders and children in primary school are not done any favours if they are equipped with too much work material, especially superfluous material. This only makes handling and school bags unnecessarily heavy.

A classic pencil case is characterised by timeless design and high quality. High-quality material ensures longevity and durability. Because the design is not bound to any trend, a classic pencil case remains usable in all classes of primary school and beyond. The quality of a pencil case is essentially determined by the processed carrier material, the durability of the sewn-in rubber loops and the quality of the zip.

Our pencil cases are made of genuine, purely vegetable-tanned leather, so-called bio-leather. We only use leather from Germany. Our pencil cases are distinguished by the fact that they are manufactured without the use of foreign materials such as foam or cardboard. As a matter of principle, no prefabricated cardboard or plastic parts are used for the interior. The interior of all pencil cases is made of the same high-quality leather as the pencil case itself. This means that each pencil case is virtually plastic-free. Apart from the core of the yarn, which has been tested for harmful substances, and a woven thread in the elastic band, there is no plastic in the pencil cases. We use a high quality woven elastic band with a width of 14 mm and a medium stretch. Pencils find a good hold in it and do not sit too loosely. The elastic is stable and does not wear out over time. The zips we use are premium metal zips from the leading Japanese manufacturer Yoshida Kōgyō (YKK), which has been producing part of its range in Germany for over 30 years. The zips consist of a woven zipper tape with a firm selvage, robust metal chain and a smooth-running slider that is easy for children to handle with leather grip loops. These are the most resilient zips you can work with. Handled properly, the zip will last a long time. What you should therefore pay attention to:

Loose pens bulge the interior of the pencil case, put tension on the zipper tape and pull on the teeth of the chain. In this way, a zip can be damaged and lose its functionality. If you take this into account and treat the pencil case with care, you will enjoy it for a long time. And not only as a schoolchild. Our pencil cases are also tried and tested companions at university or in the office. The slim classic from our Patina Edition is especially recommended for adults. Durable, made of genuine leather. As the leather is purely vegetable tanned, it oxidises under sunlight and thus forms a wonderful patina that is specific to this type of leather. Perfect for any briefcase.

While attending primary school, children can use our triangle pencil case for loose storage of scissors, glue sticks and other painting and crafting utensils. At Waldorf schools, wax colouring blocks are used in the first grade, which are usually stored in roll-up pencil cases, but also fit well in our pencil case. Older pupils can store their compasses and accessories, or for example highlighters, in the pencil case. The special triangular shape of the triangle pencil case offers the advantage that loosely stored utensils are not organised, but are nevertheless clearly visible. Due to the wide bottom and the protruding zip, the pencil case has a relatively large opening. You don't have to rummage around in the pencil case to find writing and drawing materials - just as you usually have to rummage through a pen roll or a round sewn pencil case to find the pen you need. This also proves practical for hobbies and leisure. For example, for picking up sewing kit; thread, needles, tailor's chalk, tape measure and scissors. A few selected cosmetics, indispensable even for a short weekend at the seaside or in the mountains, don't look bad in the pencil case either.

Boy or girl - does it matter? Girls and boys wear the same jeans, T-shirts, hoodies and sneakers today. So why should pencil cases be designed in an overly gender-specific way? We focus on fresh colours that can be easily combined with each other. Simply choose a pencil case in your favourite colour. That makes a schoolchild's look perfect.

Children in primary school sometimes need felt tip pens as well as coloured pencils. That is why we have filled our double pencil cases with double fibre-tip pens in addition to the Waldorf Selection. The fibre-tip pens contain a harmless and washable water-based writing fluid (without harmful substances). Ventilated safety caps serve as a closure. With sturdy tips in thick and thin line widths, handlettering and painting are especially fun. Our filled school pencil cases are best suited for children in grades 1 to 4.

For the production of our pencil cases, we only use high-quality, purely vegetable-tanned leather, so-called bio-leather. The vegetable tanning with renewable raw materials has many advantages over the common chrome tanning, including clear health benefits. Vegetable-tanned leather is free of chrome VI and other toxic chemicals. Our leather is produced exclusively in Germany. This ensures that the strict legal regulations for the protection of the environment that apply in this country are observed. The leather we use is full-grain leather. This means that the grain, the most valuable and stable part of the hide, is completely preserved. As a stable and robust natural material, full-grain leather offers a high degree of durability.

Our Patina Edition is made of natural, only lightly waxed leather. Nature and patina offer a first-class feel and look that will delight real connoisseurs. Because it is purely vegetable tanned, the leather darkens through exposure to light and develops an unmistakable patina. This impressively reflects the uniqueness of the material and enhances the individuality of the pencil case made from it.
