Unique: Bags with real, vegetable fur

We only use vegetable-tanned leather and vegetable-tanned cowhide to make our bags. Both the leather and the cowhide are made in Germany. Plant tanning (also known as vegetable tanning) with renewable raw materials has many advantages over the widespread chrome tanning, including clear health benefits. Vegetable tanned cowhide is free of chrome VI and other toxic chemicals.

Our bags are sewn with open edges. This gives our bags their typical light-coloured cut on the side bottom and bag flap. The processing of vegetable tanned skins is unusual. Bags and other articles made from chrome-tanned skins of mostly South American cattle are common, or as it is called, commercially available. Chrome-tanned cowhides are recognisable by their bluish-greyish coloured back and cut.

In demand: cowhide in interior design

As a valued design element, cowhide gained a firm place in interior architecture and interior design during the Bauhaus era at the latest. Representatives of the Bauhaus had a preference for cowhides as furniture coverings and carpets. On the one hand, cowhides - as a pure natural product with unique fur markings - were used as a design counterpoint to the rational formal language of New Objectivity. On the other hand, they explicitly corresponded to the Bauhaus idea of using high-quality to luxurious materials for design and architecture. The world's most famous furniture design with fur was created by Le Corbusier (1887-1965), his cousin Pierre Jeanneret (1896-1967) and the French architect and designer Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999). Originally designed for Maison la Roche and produced by the Italian furniture manufacturer Cassina, the LC4 chaise longue has been reissued for several years.
